چکیده

The agents (pathogens) that cause soilborne diseases of peanut are various fungi and nematodes that survive in the soil and infect one or more parts of the plant at or below the soil surface. Soilborne diseases can severely limit peanut yields in Oklahoma, particularly in fields where long rotations with nonhost crops are not practiced. Southern blight and Sclerotinia blight are probably the most widespread and destructive of the soilborne diseases and are described in OSU Extension Fact Sheet F-7186. There are several other soilborne diseases that are less common, but still important where they occur. The purpose of this fact sheet is to describe these diseases to aid growers in their identification and to provide general suggestions for their management. Specific suggestions for cultural and chemical controls are updated yearly in the OSU Extension Agents Handbook of Insect, Plant Disease, and Weed Control (Circular E-832) and in the Oklahoma Peanut Production Guide (Circular E-608).

Peanut-cotton-rye rotations and soil chemical treatment for managing nematodes and thrips.

In the southeastern United States, a cotton-peanut rotation is attractive because of the high value and extensive planting of both crops in the region. The objective of this experiment was to determine the effects of cotton-peanut rotations, rye, and soil chemical treatments on management of plant-parasitic nematodes, thrips, and soilborne fungal diseases and on crop yield. Peanut-cotton-rye ro...

Etiology Evidence for the Involvement of Soilborne Mites in Pythium Pod Rot of Peanut

SHEW, H. D., and M. K. BEUTE. 1979. Evidence for the involvement of soilborne mites in Pythium pod rot of peanut. Phytopathology 69:204-207. Mites of the genus Caloglyphus (Acarina: Acaridae) were associated with obtained from 90% of the fecal pellets collected from C. micheali after more than 50% of decaying peanut pods collected in a field in which pod rot feeding on mycelial mats of the fung...

Impact of water potential on growth and germination of Fusarium solani soilborne pathogen of peanut

Studies were conducted to determine the effect of osmotic and matric stress on germination and growth of two Fusarium solani strains, the etiological agent responsible of peanut brown root rot. Both strains had similar osmotic and matric potential ranges that allowed growth, being the latter one narrower. F. solani showed the ability to grow down to -14 MPa at 25 °C in non-ionic modified osmoti...

Linking the Belowground Microbial Composition, Diversity and Activity to Soilborne Disease Suppression and Growth Promotion of Tomato Amended with Biochar

Biochar, in addition to sequestering carbon, ameliorating soil, and improving plant performance, can impact foliar and soilborne plant diseases. Nevertheless, the mechanisms associated with suppression of soilborne diseases and improved plant performances are not well understood. This study is designed to establish the relationships between biochar-induced changes in rhizosphere microbial commu...

Overexpression of a novel peanut NBS‐LRR gene AhRRS5 enhances disease resistance to Ralstonia solanacearum in tobacco

Bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum is a ruinous soilborne disease affecting more than 450 plant species. Efficient control methods for this disease remain unavailable to date. This study characterized a novel nucleotide-binding site-leucine-rich repeat resistance gene AhRRS5 from peanut, which was up-regulated in both resistant and susceptible peanut cultivars in response to R. sol...
